BB creams (and CC creams too) have been all the rage for a while now. As the founder of Mommy Makeup, where we strive to provide the best beauty solutions for busy women, I’ve received numerous inquiries about why we don’t have our own BB cream. The answer is quite simple:
“I’m just not that into you.”
Here’s a personal breakdown of why I believe BB creams might not be the ultimate beauty product they’re hyped up to be:
1. Moisturizing Claims: Are They True?
BB creams often claim to act as moisturizers, but do they really?
Reality Check: In my experience, if your skin is truly dry, you’ll still need a richer moisturizer in addition to a BB cream. BB creams just don’t cut it when it comes to intense hydration.
2. Foundation or Just a Fad?
BB creams are marketed as hybrid foundations.
Reality Check: If you’re looking for fuller coverage, you’ll likely need to supplement with a concealer or another foundation. They often leave you wanting more coverage, which defeats the purpose of an all-in-one product.
3. Concealer Qualities: Yay or Nay?
BB creams promise to conceal, but do they deliver?
Reality Check: Flat out, NO! After trying multiple BB creams, I’ve yet to find one that effectively conceals under-eye circles or blemishes while feeling comfortable on the skin.
4. Sunscreen Protection: The Only Win?
One area where BB creams shine is sun protection.
Reality Check: While BB creams do offer sun protection, so do many moisturizers and foundations with SPF. You don’t need a BB cream to protect your skin from the sun.
5. The Need for Powder: Extra Step, Extra Time
BB creams usually need to be set with powder to last throughout the day.
Reality Check: This extra step eats up time and adds complexity to your makeup routine. Personally, I prefer products that simplify, not complicate, my routine.
6. Added Product, Added Expense
Using a BB cream might mean adding another product to your routine without real payoff.
Reality Check: From my experience, BB creams become just another product consuming your time and money without delivering significant benefits.
7. Overall Effectiveness: A Jack of All Trades?
BB creams claim to be multi-tasking wonders.
Reality Check: They tend to be “jack of all trades, master of none.” I’ve found that specialized products often perform better in their specific roles than a BB cream trying to do it all.
With all that said, BB creams often turn out to be another product that doesn’t truly live up to its multi-tasking promise. They seem to be more about the hype than real results.
So, is it worth investing your hard-earned money in BB creams? Personally, I say no. But I’m curious to hear your thoughts!
